I have always loved the month of April. It has always been a very significant month. As a child, it was meaningful because it was my birthday month. As a teen, it meant Spring Break and vacation! As a young adult, April meant I could put away my warm clothing, and embrace a new season filled with vibrant life and underscored by transformation. April also honors National Infertility Awareness Week—oddly enough, always falling during the week of my birthday. What unique and profound timing, especially as a woman who struggled with infertility! I may no longer be eager to celebrate my birthday as I once was as a child, but April serves as a time to recognize the challenges many people, including me, face (or faced!) on their path to parenthood. For me, birthdays, holidays and vacations aside, April is a reminder of the deep connections between generations, the traditions we carry forward, and the legacies we build.
That’s why I’m so proud of the partnership between Feit 4 Kidz and Alef Bet Jewelry , a business run by two of the most inspiring women in my life—my mom, Paula, and my older sister, Alissa. They started Alef Bet Jewelry with a simple yet powerful idea: to create trendy, Jewish jewelry that connects people to their heritage in a modern, meaningful way. They started with one product idea - Hebrew block letters - and grew tremendously over the years. They built on that concept, growing their business into a stylish and successful well-known brand that not only celebrates Jewish identity, but also gives back to the community through their social media and online platform. (As an aside, I would be remiss to leave out my other sister, Sara, who has always been a role model to me).
In the same way, Feit 4 Kidz was founded on one core idea—helping those in need of financial assistance for infertility treatments. What started as a single mission has grown into something greater; a commitment to supporting those facing struggle. Whether through beautiful jewelry or philanthropy, both of these endeavors show how a single idea, when nurtured with passion and dedication, can grow into something that impacts generations.
This National Infertility Awareness Week, we reflect on the importance of creating the next generation—whether through family, tradition, or the values we pass down. Infertility can be a heartbreaking and isolating struggle, but no one should have to face it alone. I remember that while I felt isolated during my years-long infertility journey, my parents, and two sisters, were there by my side. They were the ones who cried with me when I received news that my IVF cycles failed, and when I received genetic reports that showed abnormalities of our embryos. They offered words of comfort, a hand to hold, and hope when I felt empty.
Just like my family brought me through tough times, through this partnership, we hope to bring awareness to infertility, and to lend support and hope to those on their journey to parenthood.
Giving of oneself and to others, are Jewish values that were instilled in me as a young child, and those that I teach my own children. Just as my mom and sister have shown me the power of an idea, I hope we can inspire others to embrace compassion, and the belief that even the smallest act of kindness can grow into something extraordinary.
